Volunteering Programs
GAPS is proud to offer a number of project options for volunteers to take part in. Volunteers can play an enormous role in furthering projects and can leave a significant and long-lasting impact on communities through work in the field.
targeted project options
Education: Kenyan Early Childhood Education Program
Education - Human Rights: Never Again Rwanda: Train-the-trainer
Medical Development: Kenyan Village-Based Medical Educators Program, Clinical Experience Program
non-targeted project options
Teaching in a semi-rural Primary School (Kenya)
Volunteering at Brydges Orphanage
Teaching the Street Youth of Rwanda
Volunteering with a local NGO: Assist Rwanda
A number of our volunteer options are targeted through current GAPS projects. These often require significant enthusiasm and initiative on the part of the volunteer, require leadership and flexibility and can be quite demanding. Sometimes specialist knowledge or experience is of an advantage. We will often interview applicants for these targeted volunteer programs.
We also have volunteer options which are not targeted through developing projects themselves but are through GAPS partners. These are more traditional volunteering experiences which run through existing guidelines and are often less taxing. Nevertheless, these projects allow volunteers to make a direct individual contribution to communities and to directly see their impact on the individuals they are helping.
The choice between targeted and non-targeted volunteer options is a matter of personal preference and is dependent on what you want to do during your time in East Africa. In any case, we highly recommend discussing your options with a GAPS volunteer co-ordinator once you have confirmed your trip – although feel free to contact us should you have any questions in the meantime.
